Why am I missing 4 months of transactions, from Sept. 11 2025 until February 21, 2026? And how can I be sure there aren't more missing without cross-checking everything?

I'm getting all of my transactions categorized for taxes but I'm missing the last few months, and now I doubting the rest of the transactions accuracy. Do I have to cross-check every single transaction? Isn't that what I'm paying quickbooks for? 🤨

Hi there, Info2376. QuickBooks Self-Employed automatically downloads transactions from your bank. However, occasionally, the bank connection may stop syncing without displaying an obvious error. This can happen due to bank maintenance or connection interruptions.

First, let's check your bank connection and see when it was last updated. Hover over the Gear icon > Manage accounts > Refresh all.

Next, let's get those missing 4 months back. The fastest way is to download your transactions from your bank and manually add them using a CSV file. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and click Imports.
  2. Under the Transactions column, choose Import transactions.
  3. Click Import older transactions for the account you want to add transactions to.
  4. Click on Browse and locate the file you downloaded from your bank. It's usually in your Downloads folder.
  5. Select the file and select Open to start the import.
  6. Review the column headers and data. Ensure the Date, Description, and Amount columns on the CSV match the columns and order in QuickBooks. The other column headers can be in any order.
  7. Select Continue to complete the import.

To ensure accuracy without manually checking each transaction, compare your monthly bank statement balances with the totals in QBSE. If they match, your data is complete; if not, there may be missing or duplicate transactions.

Ensure to check for duplicates when your bank connection is reestablished. You'll need to exclude them so they don't affect your tax calculations.

Once done, you can now assign categories to the imported transactions using the steps in these articles: Categorize Transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

The accounts are refreshed but both my business checking and business credit card (separate banks) are still missing the same date range, from 9/11/2026-2/21/2026. I tried to import transactions with a .csv file from both banks and this is the message I get: "Darn. File upload failed. (Probably our fault.)" Attaching screenshot.

Hello Info2376, I can see why you’d want clarity on this, and I appreciate the steps you've already taken. The date range of historical transactions available through bank feeds varies by institution. Some banks only allow QuickBooks Self-Employed to download the last 30 to 90 days, while others provide up to a year. It’s a good idea to first sign in to each bank’s website and confirm that they both support downloads for your specific date range.

If you confirm that your banks do make that date range available for download, I recommend reaching out to our support team so we can take a closer look at your QuickBooks company and the underlying connections.

For the error you’re seeing when manually importing transactions, please note that QuickBooks Self‑Employed requires a specific CSV format similar to QuickBooks Online. Ensure your file adheres to the exact column structure and formatting outlined in our CSV import guidelines. After updating the file, try importing again. If the error message still appears after these steps, perform a few quick browser checks to rule out any technical glitches.

I’ll keep this thread open for any updates or anything else you’d like to share.
