Join nowI can share with you the possible reasons why a large credit balance is showing up on your dashboard, @lmshendell.
Usually, there are several factors why this happens. Here are the following:
To start, you need to review your transactions and check if there are any duplicate entries recorded. Also, if your bank is connected to online banking, the bank balance will only be changed if there are downloaded transactions. And, the QuickBooks balance depends on the added or matched transactions.
To help you manage your bank or credit transactions correctly, you can open this article: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.
Once you reconcile your account, you can check out this article as your guide: How to Reconcile an Account in QuickBooks Online.

The credit balance in my AMEX card account is an accumulation of maybe 2 years and therefore way to difficult to reconcile. And since these records are for my personal benefit only I'd like to make an adjustment to clean this up. Can I simply make a journal entry and debit the account and credit the bank its attached to?
This is an accumulation of 2 years worth of transactions and will to difficult to reconcile. Since these records are simply for my personal use I'd like to make a journal entry debiting AMEX and crediting my bank to clean this up and start fresh. Any problem doing that?
