Why does the tag field disappear under the category field when editing a register transaction?

You may see it momentarily if you watch closely, but the category field "slides" over it immediately!

Why does the tag field disappear under the category field when editing a register transaction?

Merry Christmas, @MesaCT. I'll be happy to help you sort this out so you can prevent the tag field from disappearing when editing a transaction in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

A possible reason why it disappears on your end may have something to do with your browser. Since QuickBooks is a cloud base program, know that temporary internet files like cache and cookies can affect your experience using QBO. Although these so-called Internet files speed up the loading process, too much can build up and cause operations to slow down or even stop working.

To get through this situation, I recommend freeing your browsers from those temporary internet data so you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. I'll gladly input the steps below. To begin, here's how:

  1. Restart your browser.
  2. Log in to your account in an incognito or private browser and try to modify a transaction to check if you can still see the Tag field. You can use these keyboard shortcuts to launch a new private window:

Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If it works on the private browser, you can go back to the regular browser and clear your browser's cache. Then see if you have the Tag field and if it's working well on your end. However, if the incognito window doesn't work, you can use another supported browser.

In addition, I'll be leaving this article about reconciling an account in QBO: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

You can also visit this page about modifying a report and adding extra details to it in QuickBooks: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Why does the tag field disappear under the category field when editing a register transaction?

Thank you for your quick reply. I only add transactions to my QuickBooks online as they are downloaded from Chase Bank; in every case I categorize and put a tag on the transaction. I do not ever recall seeing a downloaded a transaction for which a tag field was unavailable, regardless if it is an expense or a deposit. So I'm not sure what you mean by the distinction between the types.

The situation which I described only occurs when occasionally I need to go back to check or perhaps to edit a tag. And even in that case, the tag is present but disappears so quickly due to the categorization field sliding up and covering the tag field, so that it can no longer be seen or changed.

I did try your suggestions for incognito using both Safari and Chrome, but the results were the same as a normal Browser.
