3 Tips to Get Great Answers to Your QuickBooks Questions

ComQs.jpg

We love how many people are stopping by our QuickBooks Community to learn how to use QuickBooks better! Everyone has great questions, and we want to get you awesome answers. Here are three quick tips to help you write a post that tells us exactly what you need help with so we can get you a great answer:

1. Tell us what version of QuickBooks you're using

QuickBooks Online, Pro, Self-Employed, Enterprise … there’s a QuickBooks to fit every business. Every version of QuickBooks has different features and solutions. We can help you better (and faster) if you let us know which QuickBooks product you rely on.

2. Tell us what country you live in

Not every country uses the same method for accounting and taxes. QuickBooks tailors its features to meet a region's specific rules and regulations (impressive, we know!). Let us know the country where you're based so we can find the country-specific answer to your question.

3. Tell us about your operating system

From the look of the hardware down to the keys on the keyboard, Windows and Mac platforms couldn’t be more different. That’s why it’s so important to include information about your operating system whenever you post a QuickBooks question.  The more we know about your OS, the easier it is for us to steer you in the right direction.

Ready to post your QuickBooks question in our “Questions About QuickBooks” board? When you are, get ready for helpful answers, fast. Our experts are eager to help you get the most out of QuickBooks right now (just remember to include these three important details in every post!).

Re: 3 Tips to Get Great Answers to Your QuickBooks Questions

I am trying to start a thread, not sure where to start, so started here. I am on quickbooks PC version 2016, migrating to Quickbooks online, I am trying to export my data, and am locked on the export - seems QB online did not even ask me for my userid and password

Any thoughts on how to help me get migrated?

Re: 3 Tips to Get Great Answers to Your QuickBooks Questions

Hello there, Connie_AT.

It's my pleasure to guide you through the whole process of migrating data from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO)

When migrating data from QBDT to QBO, you'll need to make sure your QuickBooks Desktop is on a supported version. Since you're using an unsupported version which is the QuickBooks Desktop 2016, I recommend updating it first using our QuickBooks trial.

Here are the trial links made available for you: QuickBooks Desktop trial links.

Before we proceed with the troubleshooting, let's make sure to secure a backup copy of the old company file to keep a record of your transactions.

Once done, you can now start installing the latest trial version of QuickBooks Desktop. Check out this article for your reference: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

Once upgraded, you can update the company file to a new QuickBooks version. Here's a great article to know more about upgrading or converting your company file.

Now you're ready to transfer your data online. Here's how:

  1. On your QuickBooks 2019 trial, go to Company.
  2. Click Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Follow the instructions to connect to QuickBooks Online.

I'd be glad to share you these resources so you can migrate date from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online successfully: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

There you have it. Fill me in if you have additional questions or other concerns side from migrating data. I'm always around to help.

Re: 3 Tips to Get Great Answers to Your QuickBooks Questions

Hi Charles,

I have completed all of the staps of the above process, upgrading to QB 2019, verifying and condensing data, and have again tried to export the data into QB online.

I am stuck at the same place, where when I choose to export Company data to QB online, the screen goes to a circle, without asking me to login to QB.  When I see the video, it shows that I should b asked to login to QB online through QB desktop, but it just doesn't seem to be able to make this connection?

I looked at the details for setup to complete this step, and it says to login to QB online. Am I supposed to be prompted when I choose the export, or am I supposed to be logged in on Internet explorer? I can successfully log on in firefox, but I cannot successfully log on in internet explorer, as the logon screen is blank, not giving me any option to complete the logon.

any suggestions on how to help with this challenge?

In my troubleshooting, I also have tried to link to my bank accounts, and it seems that I may have an issue just linking to anything external....

Re: 3 Tips to Get Great Answers to Your QuickBooks Questions

Thanks for that information, @Connie_AT.

Yes, the prompt to log into QuickBooks Online (QBO) will show when you select the export option on the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Are you getting any error messages during the process? If so, the steps to fix this may differ depending on the error. Please refer to this article for more information: How to fix errors when converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

However, if there are no error messages and the issue persists after following the steps provided by my colleague @Charies_M, I highly suggest contacting our Phone Support team. They have tools that can check your account in a secure environment and further investigate.

Check out this article for the detailed steps on how to reach them: Contact the QuickBooks Desktop Customer Support Team.

After contacting them, I'm confident you'll be able to export your data to QBO.

Keep me posted on how the call goes in the comment section. I want to make sure that everything is taken care of for you.

Re: 3 Tips to Get Great Answers to Your QuickBooks Questions

Thank you for the support - I discovered that my internet explorer was not creating a secure connection, (don't remember exactly where I discovered this, I think I had to dig into the details a few layers on the QB help list) so the desktop version would not even allow me to log in to do the export. Here was my solution - dust off my old pc, upgrade the software and internet explorer, find a way to get the data to the old pc, and try again, and voila, I am currently uploading data. Thank you for the support. I am sure I will need it again! Connie
