I just started using bar code scanning, but have a problem. I have sales agents that I ship product to. They sell products in the field and return the unused inventory back to the warehouse. I thought with bar code scanning, I want to send and receive inventory back from my sales agents, but can not find a way to do it using the scanner. The goal was to speed up the process of having items come back and forth and do it using the scanner. Any ideas??
Good day, @Billsfan.
Let me help provide some information about using barcode scanning for inventory.
Since you're entrusting the items to your agents, I'd suggest you have it as a sales receipt. This way you can have the item come out of the inventory. All you need to do is not to recognize those as sales and record the sales receipt's payment using Account. This will have the account's receivable on the POS.
For returned items, you can record it as return/reverse. This way, it will be recorded as coming in back to the warehouse. Let me show you some screenshots below on how to process a return or exchange.
Please keep me posted if you have other questions about barcode scanner. I'm just a post away if you need help.
Thank you for your help - I actually record those transactions that way, except I am using QB Enterprise Desktop, not POS. My problem is how to do this using the barcode scanner to receive the merchandise back from the sales people and back into inventory. I do not know beforehand exactly how much they are returning.
The warehouse staff would like to just use the MC40 barcode scanner we purchased to scan in the items back into inventory when they receive them from the sales agents.
Can you please help??
Thank you for the response, @Billsfan.
I appreciate you telling me the product you're using in handling the returned inventory items. If you've created a sales receipt, you can modify the items' quantity or create an inventory adjustment for these items. However, since you mentioned you do not know beforehand the exact quantity of the items returned, I'd suggest contacting our Desktop Care Support if there's a way to track this using the barcode scanner.
In QuickBooks Enterprise, there's a specific app you can use to aid in receiving or picking items. It'd be best to consult our Support to help you choose the application and to ensure if this can be installed on an MC40 Barcode Scanner.
Let me show you how to get their contact information:
Keep me updated how it goes. I'm always here if you have other questions about managing your inventory in QuickBooks. Have a good one.
