Join nowMy firm is a ProAdvisor. I have a QB desktop file that was created, licensed and maintained by me on behalf of a client under our firm's subscription. Must we pay a monthly subscription fee to convert this file to QBO? It will preclude us from converting if we have to pay a subscription fee for all files that we've historically included under our ProAdvisor desktop subscription. Am I missing something?
Solved! Go to Solution.
All QBO versions other than the free Accountant version come with a monthly subscription fee. There is non way around accessing a client's QBO file without someone somewhere paying that monthly fee. It can be the client at full list price or it can be you, the Pro Advisor at a discounted rate that you bill back to the client.
Ordinarily there are no monthly fees for Desktop versions other than PLus or Enterprise. If you are a Desktop Pro Advisor you get your Accountant Desktop included with your annual subscription. This allows you to open and access any Pro/Premier desktop company of same or one year older (or newer, I forget) version.
Your Desktop Pro Advisor subscriptions does not give you any "special" access to your client desktop files.
There is no "inclusion" of your clients' desktop files in your Pro Advisor subscription.
ANyone with the proper version and password could access your clients' desktop files.

Thank you for the information, I was assuming this was the case. Just wanted to make sure before moving forward.
I appreciate it!
You may ask your clients to purchase their new QBO accounts by their own credit cards and invite you as their accountant later.

The problem now, are you able to open a new QBO Accountant account? You should check this first immediately prior to migrating your clients file to QBO.
