Customization of Required/Fixed Fields

Longtime user/new to community.

 

Is there a way or why isn't there a way to modify the display width on fixed fields within QB desktop.

I know you can customize the print layout, but I'm referring to the screens themselves for fixed fields on the Estimates, Invoices, PO's, and Bill screens in particular.   

Certain fields like terms, memo field, etc. are fixed, which is fine, but why can't the width of those fields be changed to be able to view the full contents?  Those details are critical and I have to rely on memory or copy/paste in order to retrieve that info to put it on related documentation.  Being about to see 6-10 characters is simply not enough.

I cannot even see the full entry of the Purchaser/Ship To and Vendor/Sub boxes.  It cuts off info every time on every transaction.

Any permanent solutions to fix this?  It's exhausting to have to constantly tweak QB every single day just to accomplish my work.

I can see the importance of being able to modify the display width on fixed fields within QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @EH in CT. That's why I'm here to share further details about this.

 

Currently, there isn't a way to adjust the width on fixed fields (i.e., terms, memo) on certain forms like estimates, invoices, PO's, and bills in QBDT. Each field in your company data file has a maximum number of characters that can be entered. However, you can export your transactions to Excel and manage them from there accordingly.

 

We make sure to provide the best experience to our customers. We value your suggestions when it comes to the system's features. I'll take note of your recommendation and relay this to our product engineers. They may consider this feature for future system upgrades. Also, I'd recommend sending your feedback by following these steps:

  1. Go to Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online.
  3. Click on Product Suggestion.
  4. Choose the Type of Feedback and select Product Suggestion.
  5. Select the Product Area.
  6. Then enter your thoughts and suggestions.
  7. Once done, select Send Feedback.

Customization of Required/Fixed Fields

I understand the need to have certain fields with a maximum number of characters, but I cannot fathom why those fields would not display in full on the screens where we're executing transactions.  It's a massive time waster having to do extra steps or work-arounds to view or retrieve information that is so basic such as a full address or the payment terms. 

The same goes for being able to fix the columns on the Vendor and Customer transaction lists.  I spend a lot of time constantly adjusting columns just to get my work done. 

After about 12 years of using QB 5 days a week, I'm perplexed as to why these basic things have not been improved.

 

We are on the most current version - we just upgraded last week and very little has changed.  I haven't seen any new features that impact my day-to-day tasks.
