Extracting portions of QB database for use in other programs

Is there a way to parse and extract portions of my QBP database (Such as all customer data, for example) for inclusion to another general database management system like Open Office Base?

Extracting portions of QB database for use in other programs

Hello, Rubyfocus.

Yes, there is. QuickBooks Desktop has an export function where you can extract certain lists and transactions to IIF and CSV files. I'll show the steps on how you can accomplish this.

If your program supports IIF files, then you can use the Export utility under the File menu. Here's how:

  1. Click the File menu.
  2. Hover on Utilities.
  3. Choose Export
  4. Select Lists to IIF Files

If your program needs a CSV format, you can export individual data list. I would recommend following the steps in this article: Import/export CSV files

Alternatively, integration between QuickBooks Desktop and Open Office Base (or other programs) might be possible. I would recommend reaching out to their support if they have an integration tool for it.

There are other cool things you can do in QuickBooks Desktop. If you want to manage other data or record transactions, I would recommend reading our articles for guides and details. Select an topic in our general topics page, then look for an article.

I'm willing to help out again if you have more questions in handling data in QuickBooks. I'm also all ears if you have other concerns in the program.
