How can I get one inventory site (smaller warehouse) to order stock from another inventory site (our main warehouse)?

I have two inventory sites: our main warehouse and a smaller warehouse in a city 3 hours away. Sometimes, the smaller warehouse needs their inventory replenished from our main warehouse. Is there a way for the small warehouse to submit a (non-posting) order to the main warehouse so their goods can be picked, packed and shipped? A bonus would be if I was able to turn that order into an inventory transfer with ease. Thanks

I got you cover, @Cardpeople.

I'll share the steps on you how you can create a non-posting transaction to replenish your items. You'll want to create a purchase order. Just make sure to fill in the site and location of your main warehouse.

Here's how:

  1. In your Home Page, tap the Purchase Orders icon.
  2. Select an item from the Item column and the Qty.
  3. Add the inventory site from the Ship To drop-down. See the image below.
  4. Click Save & Close.

With the above steps, you're able to picked, packed and shipped your good from the your other warehouse. Learn more about the details at this guide: Multiple Inventory Sites.

@Cardpeople

Multi warehouse feature is available on Platinum edition. If you are using Silver or Gold edition, you may upgrade your plan or utilize a 3rd party inventory management app.

In the solution you described, who would I put in the vendor name field? I would have to add my company as its own vendor?

Yes, I do have platinum, that's how i'm able to have multiple warehouses. I'm looking for a way for the smaller warehouse to request a transfer of a particular list of goods from the main warehouse

To clarify, I'm looking for a way for one warehouse to submit a "inventory transfer request" to another warehouse. This would need to be a non-posting transaction. An added bonus would be that I would be able to create a Inventory Transfer from this with the click of a button, as well as monitor this request as it is being picked, packed and shipped to the other warehouse.

I appreciate the clarifications that you gave, @Cardpeople.

Let me provide some pointers regarding your inventory transfer concern in QuickBooks Desktop.

Inventory transfers in QuickBooks are used to ensure each site has an accurate quantity of products in stock.

Moreover, the option shared by my peer above is the best way to create a non-posting transaction that will record your inventory. This way, it will be packed and shipped from one warehouse to another.

I can see the option to have an inventory transfer request form would be a great help for you and your business. I recommend sharing this preference with our developers.
