Payroll Cost integration in Profit & Loss

In our business model we are required to track costs per project, however it seems that QBO does not have the options to customize a report where you can include your payroll cost per project. Any recommendations on how to go about this issue?

Payroll Cost integration in Profit & Loss

Thanks for visiting here in the Community, Sharmeen.

I’m here to share how payroll costs per project works in QuickBooks Online.

There is a Payroll Expenses section in the Profit and Loss Detail report.  However, we are unable to customize it so you can include your payroll cost per project.

As a workaround you can run two reports for this. First, pull up the Profit and Loss Detail report. Then, run and customize the Transaction List by Customer report. Lastly, export them to Excel so you can merge the two reports.

Here’s how:

To run the Profit and Loss Detail report:

  1. Click Reports at the top.
  2. Enter Profit and Loss Detail in the Find report by name search box.
  3. Choose a date range, then click Run report.

To run Transaction List by Customer report:

  1. Click Reports at the top.
  2. Enter Transaction List by Customer in the Find report by name search box.
  3. Choose a date range.
  4. Click the Customize button, then click Filter.
  5. Select the needed transactions under Transaction Type.
  6. Choose the project’s name under Customer.
  7. Click the Run report button.

To export a report to Excel:

  1. Open a report, then click the Export button.
  2. Select Export to Excel (see screenshot below).

Once you’ve exported the reports to Excel, you can make necessary changes from there.

We love to know your thoughts on making QuickBooks Online better.  Your suggestions play an important part when it comes to designing new updates. Please tell our product developers you want a report that includes the payroll cost per project. Just go to the Gear icon and click Feedback.

There you have it. Drop your comments if you have other questions. I'll get back here to help you again.
