I have a feeling that this has been asked and answered about 3 million times. I am sorry to add one more what system do you all recommend.
We are opening a pizza place (delivery only) at this point.
We are not even sure that we need a POS system at this point.
We are using QBO to manage our accounting in/out cashflow, ect.
It appears everyone is pointing to Square which I am happy to go with.
However, we are literally just starting and have setup QB online & accepting CC via QB.
Do we really need to implement a POS right now or could we just receive payments via QB until the dust settles and have a chance to really consider what system to incorporate?
I was thinking just setup the menu items as products in QB and create invoices really quickly on the fly for now. Most will be handwritten in the shop anyway.
Can someone give me some direction?
Again, thanks and sorry for asking such a newbie question.
I appreciate your time posting here, TIMORLANG.
Depending on your business needs, you have the option to use the POS or not. The advantage of having a POS system is that it can take payments with an app, helps manage your sales data, run inventory, get profitability reports, and save time.
For now, QuickBooks Point-of-Sale (POS) only links to the desktop versions of QuickBooks. In QuickBooks Online, you can go to the App Center on the left panel and search for a third-party application that has a similar function.
To learn more about QuickBooks Point-of-Sale, you can check it here: A point of sale solution that fits your business.
Please feel free to add a reply if you have any additional questions. I'm always here to answer them. Take care and stay safe.
If you only accept order by phone and accept payment by cash, you don't need POS for now. You can record your daily sales order in XLS and utilize a 3rd party tool to import them.
Once you are ready to take a next step, you may deploy a POS with features like delivery management, online & mobile ordering, payment processing, and loyalty marketing program. I noticed there is a POS system for pizzeria to integrate with QBO.
I would suggest that you continue to Use QuickBooks Online for Your Simple Point of Sale Solution
Square can be a nightmare trying to reconcile it with QBO and you will pay higher rates for credit card processing.
Yeah, that is what I was thinking about using an outside solution. Is there anyway within QB to very quickly create invoices and default everything to save rather than the Save & Send?
QuickBooks has a lot of options that you can choose, TIMORLANG.
Creating an invoice in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is quick and easy. One way to create one in QBO is to select the customer on the Customers page. Then click the Create Invoice link under the Action column. Alternatively, you can also click the + New, then select Invoice. Please see this article for the complete steps: Create Invoices In QBO.
Then, you can click Save if you don't want your invoice to be sent. Other options are Save and new, Save and close and Save and send. I've attached a screenshot for your visual guide.
After you've connected your bank and credit card accounts, QuickBooks automatically download your recent transactions. You can match existing transactions if you've already entered them, or add if you didn't find a matching transaction. You can read this article for your future reference: Categorize And Match Online Bank Transactions in QBO.

Thanks for the info. I believe we are going to use this method until it is worth it (we are still not open yet really) to invest into a real POS system. I am actually looking at Floreant POS and using it on a Linux box. I am an IT consultant and have extensive experience with Linux and so this maybe the path for us.
Thank you very much for the info,
