Problem with Import IIF sample files

I downloaded the IIF Import Kit, Sample Files, and Headers.
The example files don't match the documentation that is in the same kit.
For example, purchase_order.zip file includes a sample purchase order. It contains several INVITEM records. The headers in that file show two QNTY columns!
The description of the INVITEM in your IIF Import Kit doesn't show any QNTY fields. So, I don't understand how to interpret one QNTY column, much less two.

The description says the 2nd column is for TIMESTAMP. The example doesn't have a TIMESTAMP column.
Is this kit up-to-date? Are these errors in the purchase_order.zip file? (Downloaded from: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/manage-lists/iif-overview-import-kit-sample-files-..., scroll down to Purchase Order.

Maybe I have a bigger question...Are the column headings in the IIF positional, as described in the order given in the IIF Header Help files?  Or, does what looks like a comment line in the IIF file define the actual column layout? If the latter is the case, what happens when there are two identical column headers, e.g., QNTY, and each has a different value? (10 and 250 in the example file)

Problem with Import IIF sample files

I was curious and while I tried, I could not locate the PO example with items in it using the IIF kit behind your link.

The PO examples that I did find were pretty awful, incomplete, and malformed...  but no Items in them.

Still, to answer your question, for the most part the columns can be in any order:

The records type should be the first field in the definition rows and in use, like the !TRNS/TRNS and !SPL/SPL record type codes, and for best results they should always be followed by the TRNSID and SPLID fields, which you can leave blank/empty.  After that any field order is fine, as defined in your ! records.

Problem with Import IIF sample files

Odd, the link takes me to a page called "IIF Overview: import kit, sample files, and headers". About half-way down the page, in a table of Transaction Types, there's a link for Purchase Order to a purchase_order.iif file, which is a zip file containing an IIF file.

The INVITEM with the 2 QNTY fields is:

!INVITEM NAME REFNUM INVITEMTYPE DESC PURCHASEDESC ACCNT ASSETACCNT COGSACCNT QNTY QNTY PRICE COST TAXABLE PAYMETH TAXVEND TAXDIST PREFVEND REORDERPOINT EXTRA
INVITEM inventory item 1 INVENTORY income Inventory Asset Cost of Goods Sold 10 250 50 25 N 1
