Since QB is not supporting desktop anymore, what other software compares to QB. I have to change from QB because I hate the online version.
Hi there, Cathy.
I recognize your preference for QuickBooks Desktop and concerns about moving to the online version. While QuickBooks Online offers powerful features and flexibility, we're working diligently to improve our services to match everyone's needs and preferences.
If you're looking for software outside of Intuit that aligns better with your workflows, I recommend exploring platforms through the Google search engine that cater to your business type, size, and specific accounting needs. Look for solutions offering strong reporting, ease of use, and scalability similar to what you valued in QuickBooks Desktop.
Why QuickBooks Desktop is no longer available to new U.S. subscribers?
Intuit has announced that after September 30, 2024, it will no longer sell new subscriptions for QuickBooks Desktop products in the U.S. This decision reflects a strategic shift towards cloud-based solutions, aiming to provide users with enhanced features, real-time updates, and improved accessibility. However, existing subscribers can continue using their products, but it's important to note that support and services for older versions will eventually be discontinued.
That said, we'd love to help you take another look at QuickBooks Online. While it may feel different initially, it offers features designed to streamline your processes, such as:

Which QB Desktop year version do you have now? Pro/Premier or Enterprise? Which year version?
2024 accountant copy
I have tried QB Online and it was the worst thing I ever did. It caters to businesses who use an inventory, who take paypal or other payments and in no way supports a real business for professionals or contractors. I am looking right now for a new database and hopefully, one that is not cloud-based, as the disruptions from a cloud-based database and the opportunity for security breaches increase with time. I am listening to offers this week and next and hopefully will find something that fits a medium-sized business that is service-based. I will put any comments on this platform.
They just upgraded us to 2023 version of QB Desktop Enterprise.
They will support QB Desktop2024 Accountant until May 2027. Why do you consider switching to another program?
They will support QBD 2023 Enterprise until May 2026. You need to consider ERP to replace QBD and run it on your local machine.
I'm reviewing a number of databases right now.
Don't forget to explore Netsuite and Accumatica. You may also consider migrating only your ending balances to the new program and accessing your historical data in the trial version of QB Desktop for good to lower your conversion costs.
I use an accounting system called PROCAS (Project Cost Accounting System). They started in 1997 and I have setup for ~120 clients who all love it. The system specialty is project cost accounting, meaning you setup your customer with projects so you can account for all of their costs using the multiple accounts in COA and can run reports to see a complete P&L for each project, to track which ones are profitable or not. This is required for a company who has contracts or grants and allows tracking of project cost and revenue for multiple years. The accounting is similar to any other accounting system, has many of the good features of QB but no bad. This is the only accounting system I have used for my clients for the last 15 years. I assist them with setup and train them how to do their own accounting because it is very easy to use and you have more control over things.
