QuickBooks Online – The Big Picture

I have used quickbooks enterprise edition for years and love it.  I now am running my own business and cannot afford to purchase the enterprise edition so I started out with the trial of the online version.  OMG, is it me or it the software.  I am at the wits end and ready the throw my computer at the wall.  It it that bad or is it just me.  I cant figure this thing out and I am an expert at enterprise.

QuickBooks Online – The Big Picture

Hi @Maxiegirl36!

So the good news is, that a lot of "lifetime users of QB Desktop" start off with a love hate relationship with QuickBooks Online! Sorry, the good news is... it gets much better! Not only will it get better, but after a bit of time you will look back and ask yourself why you waited to give it a try.

About two years ago, we converted an interior design client of ours that absolutely hated change. It seemed like for the first couple weeks that we had to convince her not to revert back to her desktop ways but those days are long gone.  You may even be surprised to hear that last year she actually thanked us for "making her change."

Here is my secret solution to ease the conversion process.  Download and install the QuickBooks Online Desktop App.

We have found that people that were very comfortable with QB Desktop appreciated the drop down menus to help them transition to the new web based workflow.  The app is free and works for both PC & Mac!

I know it may start out frustrating but, give it a short bit of time!  If you need assistance figuring out a specific feature, you have a whole community at your disposal!

Hope this helped!

QuickBooks Online – The Big Picture

Hey @Maxiegirl36,

Welcome to the QB Community. Transitioning from Enterprise to Online can be a challenge since the User Interfaces are so different. I had the opposite experience and came from QuickBooks Online into Enterprise. While the accounting processes were familiar, the actual orientation of features and buttons took some getting used to.

We created this Getting Started with QuickBooks Online hub for users who are new to the software. In particular, I highly recommend articles in the "Setting up for Success" workflow-specific series since you are already very familiar with accounting.

What workflows are you currently trying to set up in QuickBooks Online? Are you tracking only sales? Assets and liabilities? Inventory? We'd love to offer you more resources.

I am using entgerprise 2018 desktop and have enterprise primarily because I keep so much data and the lower versions would not accommodate.  That said I am thinking about moviing to online. what are the pros and cons, including difference in financials ( how much monthly versus the annual ) . Is enterprise avail online?

Hey @pixiefinn,

How serendipitous, we're actually having this very conversation in the Getting Started with QuickBooks Desktop page.

Please feel free to chime in and see what we have already discussed. Your perspective would be very valuable. I recommend starting from the Before You Start - The QuickBooks Guide to Converting QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online section where we specifically mention QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise and then joining my conversation with @Splinter on the "Conversion Process" page.

Since you have used desktop, this non partisan comparison will help you make a decision, cost comparison is at the end
