My client has recently started doing trade shows and wants to track everything by show. I set up a custom field and tags for each trade show but I can't figure out how to get an A/R report? should I be using classes instead?

Your custom fields should definitely show up in your A/R report. You may just need to adjust the filter. I'm happy to walk you through how to do that.
