System Generated Lot numbers

We are currently running QB Enterprise in a Manufacturing company.  We assign Lot#s to products we create (inventory assembly items) as well as raw materials (inventory parts) we receive.  We are currently assigning the next sequential lot number outside of QB.  We have Advanced Inventory activated to track the lot numbers once they have been assigned.

Is there a way within QB to generate these sequential lot numbers?

System Generated Lot numbers

Hello, CPI-DGCM.

I'm happy to share information on how lot number works and how you can use them for your workflows.

QuickBooks Enterprise assigns fixed lot numbers for items. We're unable to generate sequential numbers automatically at this time.

However, you can assign multiple fixed lot numbers to a single item using the Adjust Quantity/Value On Hand function. Do this by generating or creating a lot number outside QuickBooks, then copying it to the program.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Inventory menu, then click the Adjust Quantity/Value On Hand option.
  2. Select Lot Numbers for Adjustment type (Note: if you click on the table before selecting the type, you won't be able to change it. Exit it out then open the option again).
  3. Choose an item, then assign a lot number.
  4. If you want to assign a new one, simply enter it under the LOT NUMBER column.
  5. Click Save & Close after entering the needed details.

More details can be found here: Use Serial or Lot Numbers.

There might be an app that changes the behavior of how lot numbers are assigned in QuickBooks Desktop. Feel free to browse our Marketplace to look for one.

Our developers periodically update and release new features for QuickBooks Desktop. They might change how this works in the future.

Look for product updates in the Community by searching for "What's new in QuickBooks Desktop" or "Release notes for QuickBooks Desktop." You can also visit our product update blogs here (click the QuickBooks Enterprise tag to view product-specific updates).

In case you need help with other processes and workflows in Enterprise, feel free to visit its articles. Browse them here and look for a specific topic.

Send a reply to this thread if you have other concerns with QuickBooks. I'd be glad to listen and help you out again.

System Generated Lot numbers

Thank you, jamespaul for your expertise.

It appears at this point that the answer to my question is "No", "We're unable to generate sequential numbers automatically at this time."

I do understand how to assign and change Lot#s via the Adjust Quantity/Value On Hand option.  However, I am trying to get closer to creating inventory tags with next sequential Lot#.

I will look for another tool outside of QB and hope a QB solution comes soon.

Thank you again for your assistance in this recent puzzle.
