Three Questions for Brandi Black, QuickBooks Bill Pay Leader

One of the most exciting features rolling out to QuickBooks Online is QBO Bill Pay through a partnership with Bills.com. QBO Bill Pay lets you pay your vendors right from your books, without leaving QBO or navigating to external websites.

We talked to QuickBooks Bill Pay leader Brandi Black for a sneak peek about how this new feature can help you.

Brandi, what gets you excited about QBO Bill Pay?

For the first time in QBO history, you can now pay your bills electronically within the product! There’s no need to leave the program. Just click the Create (+) menu and select “Pay Bills Online,” and you’ll be done in just a couple steps.

What problems can QBO Bill Pay solve for a small business owner?

With QBO Bill Pay, you won’t have to log into a separate system to pay your bills electronically, then return to QBO to record the transaction manually. When you use QBO Bill Pay to pay those bills, QBO will automatically record all the accounting for you. One less thing to take care of at the end of the day!

What can QBO Bill Pay do that most people might not realize?

QBO Bill Pay can help you pay your contractors via Direct Deposit/ACH, right from QuickBooks and without having to sign up for Intuit Online Payroll. QBO Bill Pay is also cheaper than a full IOP subscription and allows for you to pay your bills via ACH in the same transaction. So many small business owners use contractors to fill staffing gaps or for short-term work, so it’s great to have a new way to pay those folks.

Have you tried QBO Bill Pay? If you’ve had the chance to take a look, tell us about how QBO Bill Pay has worked for you in the comments!

Hi John,

QBO Bill Pay is a new feature that we're rolling out gradually. If you don't see a link to sign up on your Pay Bills screen yet, stay tuned for now. More companies are getting signed on all the time, so keep your eyes peeled :smileyhappy:

Have a great one!

When it becomes part of QBO, will the pricing be more competitive?  I'd love to have a few of my contractor clients use this but the pricing is just too steep for them (per item pricing).

I appreciate you letting me know that price is an issue for these clients now. I'll make sure the team hears about your situation so we can be sure we're hitting the right mark. Input like yours is really valuable when we make those decisions :smileyhappy:

One of my favorite QBO features to date!  This is a vast improvement over some of the ad hoc solutions folks are using today- bills are paid, accounting is done! :robotlol:

Three Questions for Brandi Black, QuickBooks Bill Pay Leader

We have two employees that went to set up their direct deposit information for Bill Pay Online.  They both had interruptions and did not get to finish with their input of Direct Deposit account info.  Now, the system will not let them back in to complete their info. I tried deleting their invoices and adding them back in so that we could start the process all over again, but to no avail.  It simply states "Vendor Action Required".  I now have their DD info directly and would like to input it myself, but there is no opportunity to do so since they had already started the process.  Please help! They would like to get DD started for BPO but cannot edit their information.

Hi Daphne - It almost sounds to me like you're stuck in some kind of loop. I think the best thing for you to do would be to call our Support channel as they may be able to clear whatever's blocking this process. You can find our contact numbers on this page https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact

Hope this helps get you "unstuck"! Let me know how it goes :smileyhappy:

Three Questions for Brandi Black, QuickBooks Bill Pay Leader

I love this feature, so far, but am having one issue.  We have too many vendors for them to all show at one time in the window that allows me to select vendors to sent invites - to join bill pay (in QBO).  I cannot view some of them, so I have no way to select them.  Is there another way to send the invites?

Also, we REALLY need to be able to attach a payment stub, or have some place to list what is being paid.  For instance, we send a monthly check for IRA contributions, and I need a way to list the contributors, their account numbers, and the amounts.

We have the same problem of too many venders to show up. It would be nice if there was a search box to find venders to send invites to. Also, we have several accounts that I feel should already be  in the system to receive ACH’s but I don’t see how to add them without submitting a request to them. Places like Blue Cross Blue shield of Texas, Humana Dental insurance, Wells Fargo bank and AT&T. I have seen where a few others of my accounts say they may already be in the system but not very many. Is there a way for y’all to add these big name companies? they are not going to respond to an invite. One last note I feel the $1.50 per check is on the high side.

I don't have the "Pay Bills Online" option.  How do I get it?  What is the fee structure?
