The QuickBooks App provides you the power of QuickBooks Online with the speed and ease you expect on your desktop! Here's a quick guide to installing and using QuickBooks App for Windows and Mac.

Who can use the app?


While it is possible to use QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks App at the same time, please note that the app doesn’t share data with QuickBooks Desktop company files.

How much does it cost?

The QuickBooks app is included as part of your QuickBooks Online subscription.

Note for US Customers: If you create your QuickBooks Online account from the app, you'll only see the monthly subscription price. You can switch to a yearly subscription once you're in the app.

How do I get the app?

Go to Scroll down to Get the QuickBooks Mac or Windows App section, and select Free Download, then select Download Now.

How do I install the app?


  1. Double-click the file you downloaded to launch the installer.
  2. Select Next, then choose Agree & Install.
  3. Wait for the installer to run the rest of the way through.
  4. Select Finish.


    1. Select the QuickBooks.dmg file in the downloads section.

  1. Drag QuickBooks to the Applications folder.

  • From the Applications folder, launch the QuickBooks App and the program will load to the sign-on page.
  • Select Sign In, if you have QuickBooks Online account.
  • Select Create a new QuickBooks account if you don't have one.

How do I uninstall the app?

Follow the usual steps for uninstalling a program or application in Windows or Mac:

Windows 10

  1. Select the Start menu.
  2. Go to Settings, then select System.
  3. From the left pane, select Apps features.
  4. Choose QuickBooks Windows app then select the Uninstall button.

Windows 8.1 and 7

  1. Select the Start menu.
  2. Go to Control Panel then select Programs.
  3. Under Programs and Features, select Uninstall a program.
  4. Choose QuickBooks Windows app then select the Uninstall button.


  1. Drag the QuickBooks Windows app from the Applications folder to the Trash.
  2. To completely remove the app, go to Finder then choose Empty Trash.

How do I clear cache in the QuickBooks app?

  1. Select Help.
  2. Choose Reset App Data.

How do I use multiple windows in the QuickBooks App?

To open a new window from the top menu

  1. Select Window at the top.
  2. Select Menu Items Open New Windows.
  3. Add a check on the box next to Menu Items Open New Windows.

You can now use the Create or Report menu along the top of the screen to create new transactions that open in a new screen.

To open an existing transaction in a new window
In any transaction list, double-click the transaction to open it in a new window.

To open a new transaction or report in a new window

  1. Select Create ⨁ at the top.
  2. Hover over the name of the transaction and select the Detach icon. It will open a new window that you can drag around.

To open a report in a new window

  1. Select Reports at the top.
  2. Select All Reports.
  3. Search and run the report you need.

Keep the Menu Items Open New Windows checkbox selected to have reports open in a separate window.
