Buy nowClient does not use automated payroll. They e-filed their 2024 W-2s through QBO. Federal was accepted.
A couple of months later received a notice from Wisconsin that they did not receive the W-2s.
Is Wisconsin not able to be filed through QB Online?
Hi there, Laurajh.
QuickBooks Online Payroll simplifies payroll tax filings for federal and state agencies. For users of QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, or Elite, state W-2s are filed automatically with federal W-2s. However, it’s important to verify the process for your specific state, as not all states support automatic W-2 filings through QuickBooks Online Payroll.
Once you e-file through QuickBooks, Federal W-2 forms and most state W-2s are e-filed simultaneously. However, some states may require manual submission. For Wisconsin, if you received a notice about missing W-2s, confirm the filing status and review archived filings in QuickBooks.
Here's how:
If the W-2 forms appear in your archived filings, they may have been filed correctly. However, it’s still recommended to contact Wisconsin state authorities to confirm if whether the W-2s were indeed received.
If the W-2 forms are not found in the archived filings, or if you believe an error occurred during submission process, contact QuickBooks Payroll Support for assistance. They can review your payroll settings, trace the filing process, and help ensure compliance.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further clarification or assistance. We’re here to help.
Hi thank you for reaching out again about this concern, Laurajh.
I understand how frustrating it must be to encounter an issue like this, especially when it impacts your ability to file documents on time. Since the WI W-2 option wasn’t available for 2024 despite you not making changes in the setup.
The best next step would be to contact QuickBooks Support directly. They can investigate the system error, confirm the cause, and assist you with requesting reimbursement. Be sure to provide all details, including what you see for 2025, and any screenshots to help them narrow down the root issue.
Here's how to contact:
1. Click the Help menu or the (?) icon in the upper-right corner of QBO.
2. Go to the Assistant tab.
3. Type "contact support" in the chat box and press Enter.
4. Provide a brief description of your concern and click Continue.
5. Choose your preferred option. Have us call you or Chat.
