24 hour workers

If an employee works for 24 hours, and starts his shift at 8am, he will finish it in the next morning at 8am. Your system is not willing to handle it.  You count his payment from midnight to midnight. Therefore,  he will get only 8 hours OT, but he supposed to get  OT for 15 hours. (From 8 am to 5pm regular, from 5pm to midnight OT, and from midnight to 8am regular payment again. But from midnight to 8am, it is OT.)

If he works (in one period) in 7 shift each of them for 24 hours, he should have 7x9 hours regular payment,  and 7x15 hours OT.

Is there any opportunity to fix this problem?

A warm welcome to the Community, a6393.

Helping you pay an employee with 24 hours of work is my priority. Let's get your employee paid.

There are a few easy steps on how you can process the payroll for your employee with 24 hours for work. You will first need to add the Overtime Pay option to your employee's profile.

Here's how:

  1. Go to your Employee's list and double-click the employee's name.
  2. Click Pay to edit.
  3. Go to How much do you pay (name of your employee).
  4. Choose Overtime Pay and hit Done.

After that, you can run payroll with 15 hours OT for your employee.

Here's how:

  1. Choose an employee.
  2. Enter Regular hours (9 hours).
  3. Enter the Overtime hours (15 hours).
  4. Hit Preview Payroll. This will show the total hours work for the employee which is 24 hours.

I have to confess that I am this (one of 24hours) employee. My company uses your software and says it can only count between midnight and midnight, but not between 8 and 8. I lose a lot of money; more than $ 46 per week. I didn't want to believe that it wasn't possible to account for the overtime after midnight. Thank you for your help ; I think I'll sue them. $ 2,400 a year, and he's been doing this for three years. Thank you very much for your help!

Hi there, @6393

I appreciate the time you've given to get back on us. I can only imagine what this process has been like for you.

I'm glad you visited us and have your issue resolved through the solutions outlined for you by one of our colleagues. Now that you already know how QuickBooks calculate overtime hours, you can have your employer correct your profile and do an internal agreement with them to compensate for the unpaid overtime hours. If necessary, you can seek legal advice to ensure you're being paid correctly.
