2nd Quarter 941

I am attempting to complete the 941 for the 2nd quarter on QuickBooks Desktop.  However, lines 5a i and ii, won't populate and it won't allow me to override it.  I've validated everything with our accountants and the amounts that we paid out in Sick and Family leave wages should be listed in these 2 lines.  I made sure to do Payroll Updates, but it still is incorrect.  Does anyone else have this same issue or know of a solution?

Hello, @EVK.

We currently don't have any ongoing investigation about this error. However, we can perform some basic troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Though you've updated your payroll tax table already, we can perform the steps again but make sure to update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release first.

Here's how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop account, then go to the Help menu.
  2. Select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Go to the Options tab, and tick the Mark All button.
  4. Click the Update Now tab, then put a check-mark on the Reset Update box.
  5. Hit Get Updates. Once the update is complete, restart your computer and right-click the QBDT icon then choose Run as Administrator.

Once completed, proceed with updating your payroll tax table version.

If you're getting the same error, I encourage reaching out to our Support Team to check and investigate this further. To contact support, check out this link.

2nd Quarter 941

I am trying to file our 3rd quarter tax returns and I'm running into the same issue.  Quickbooks won't populate line 5a(i) or 5a(ii), and it won't let me override it.

I tried using the same instructions that you gave me last quarter, but it's not changing anything.  These instructions worked last quarter, but not this quarter's return.

Hello @EVK,

Let's continue our troubleshooting steps since installing the updates in both QuickBooks and tax table did not solve the calculation of your 941 tax return.

Before we proceed, consider creating a backup copy of your company data and use it when the clean install is finished. You can do so by following the steps in this article: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

Once done, you'll also need to prepare the following information:

That being said, here how you can clean install QuickBooks:

  1. Go to the Start menu.
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Click Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  4. Choose QuickBooks.
  5. Select Uninstall/Change.
  6. Click Remove.

Then, proceed with the re-installation of QuickBooks with Step 2 outlined in this article: Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, I've got you this helpful article for the steps in restoring a backup copy of your company data: Learn how to use your backup company file (.qbb) of your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.
