All of a sudden I am unable to make electronic payments for Federal taxes. Has this happened to anyone else? Help.

I'm using Quickbooks Payroll Core. Last week I could pay federal taxes electronically. This week it is set to manual tax payments. I did not change anything.

I’ve got an update about paying federal payroll taxes online, @local728-iatse72.

At this moment, there’s an ongoing investigation about being unable to E-pay federal taxes in QuickBooks Online Payroll. Our engineers are now working on a fix. I recommend contacting our payroll support team to add your company to the list of affected ones. This way, you’ll receive updates once the resolution is rolled out.

Before that, please check our support hours so you can connect with us quickly and at a time convenient to you. Then, follow the instructions below:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Select the Help (?) menu.
  3. In the Assistant window, type in “Talk to a human” in the field.
  4. Enter “Can’t make electronic payments for federal taxes,” then go to the Contact option.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

Once you’re able to pay your taxes online, you can use this guide to view your tax forms and payments in the program: Access payroll tax forms and tax payments. This makes sure everything is complete. And your records are accurate.

Don’t hesitate to leave a message if you have any other questions or concerns besides making electronic tax payments. I’ll be here to help. Take care!

All of a sudden I am unable to make electronic payments for Federal taxes. Has this happened to anyone else? Help.

I am using QB Desktop 2022 version and have been using e-file and e-pay for years with no problems.  Now for the last 6 months or longer, when I e-file my 941 tax payments they are being rejected.  I have never changed the 10-digit numerical code that IRS assigned to me and I'm the only one that uses it.  Why is it continually rejecting my 941 e-file payments? I successfully e-filed my W-2/W-3 with no problems.  Does not make sense. This is very frustrating!

The sentiments expressed are valid if we were in the same situation as e-filing state forms and e-pay taxes on time will prevent penalties from the IRS, @My3girls1. Let's work together to tackle the challenges you're experiencing, ensuring a hassle-free filing process.

Before anything else, please note that the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) requires the use of a 4-digit PIN for tax payments, not the 10-digit number you mentioned, as that's for e-filing.

When we proceed to resend the rejected e-payment, let's ensure to enter the correct 4-digit PIN to avoid any further complications or rejections.

If the rejection of e-pay is because you recently updated your bank account for e-payments on the EFTPS website but didn't update the PIN saved in QuickBooks, you can follow these steps to update it:

  1. Go to Employees, then select Payroll Center
  2. Select the Pay Liabilities tab.
  3. In the Pay Taxes & Other Liabilities section, select your federal tax, and then select View/Pay.
  4. Select E-payment, and then e-pay.
  5. Clear the Remember My Information for Next Time checkbox.
  6. Enter your new 4-digit PIN and EFTPS internet password
  7. Enter any other missing info.
  8. Select Submit.

For more information about common rejection reasons for e-file and e-pay, please visit this article: Handle payroll e-file and e-pay rejections.

On the other hand, if this is an e-file specific to form 941 rejection and your password hasn't been changed, let's untick the box for Remember my information for next time and re-enter the 10-digit PIN. Once done, we can now tick the box again.

Moreover, if you need to update your EFTPS internet password for IRS payroll tax payments in the future, we prepared this helpful guide that you can refer to: Updating your password with EFTPS.

When filing electronically, it’s crucial to understand that E-file and E-pay require appropriate PINs, and taking the time to ensure that you have the right PINs for e-filing will help facilitate a smoother filing experience. If you have follow-up questions, let us know and we'll be right here in no time.
