If you are using QuickBooks payroll, you can upload the document received to the employees file, than go into the employee profile > deductions and contributions > add garnishment

It will be applied to the next pay cycle and show up on employee pay stub.

Ensuring that an employee's child support withdrawals are accurately tracked in QuickBooks is essential for retaining precise data in the platform, blackdog. I'm here to help you double-check if these entries resides in the correct account.

To confirm the associated account for child support-related data, kindly access the Accounting Preferences page of your Payroll settings. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Payroll settings.
  2. Hover down to the Accounting tab and click its Pencil icon.
  3. Navigate to and tick the Pencil icon in the Other Liability and assets section.
  4. Review the Other liabilities/assets list and check the Child support's linked account.
  5. Once confirmed, you can double-check your child support-related transactions registered to the account from your Chart of accounts.

Please know that you can't directly process child-support payments through QuickBooks. With this, you must settle them outside the program. After handling them, you can enter the payment as a check for recording purposes.

In addition, you can follow the steps given by KimAnnVA (if you haven't yet) about adding the garnishment to your employee's pay stub. For more information about managing employee garnishment withholdings, kindly access this link: Set up and collect garnishments.

You may also click this article if you need to modify your payroll's accounting preferences: Change your accounting preferences in QuickBooks Online Payroll. It can guide you through the process and ensure proper data mapping.

Tag me on this thread if you have follow-up questions regarding child support and other garnishment transactions or need assistance facilitating your payroll in QuickBooks. I'm always grateful to help.
