Can I change my ira match to be 3% of gross

Yes, you can change the deduction percentage on your employee's profile, dgarland-icahn-o.

SIMPLE IRA plans are tax-deferred. This means that deducted amounts are exempt from federal and state income tax withholding when processed through payroll. However, they're still subject to social security and Medicare taxes. Amounts withdrawn from these plans after retirement are subject to income taxes.

To update the percentage, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu and click Employees.
  2. Look and select the employee's name.
  3. Scroll down to the 5th step where deductions are selected and click the pencil icon beside the Simple IRA deduction.
  4. Edit the percentage and then click OK.

Changes to this info will not change existing ones but will post to future payrolls. If you want to edit previous paychecks, I'd suggest reaching out to our Phone Support Team so they can also check if there are any taxes that will be affected.

You'll want to run payroll reports to get an overview of your employee's paycheck details and wages.

Let me know if you have other questions in setting up your employee's payroll information. I'll be around the corner to keep an eye on your reply and help you through it. Take care!

When I choose 3% of gross my deduction is not 3% of gross .... it is slightly off.  Quickbooks desktop was 3% of gross and I switched to Quickbooks Online last week and the deduction changed to slightly less then 3% of gross even though I put in the right deduction amount.  Taxes should not have anything to do with the contribution amount.

I appreciate the update that you gave, @dgarland-icahn-o.

I'd like to ensure that your IRA deductions will be accurate to match the 3% of the gross.

Let's check the rate that was set on your employees' deduction is correct. An incorrect setup can be the reason behind the issue that you've encountered.

To do that:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu, then select Employees.
  2. Select the employee's name.
  3. Select Edit ✎ next to Pay.
  4. Under Does this employee have any deductions?, select the Edit ✎ icon next to the deduction you want to edit.
  5. Verify the rate and make any necessary changes. Here's a sample snip for the set up:
  6. Select OK, then Done.

To do that:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to the Help icon.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then select Continue.
  5. Click Get a callback option and then enter your contact information.
