We can set up a mileage rule in the mobile app, Timjkarp65. Let me help you.

You can follow these steps:

  1. Click the Three horizontal line icon or Menu icon.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Tap Manage Mileage Rules or Manage Transactions Rules.
  4. Create the rule and set it up for the business.
  5. Click Save or OK.

Let me add this article as a future reference: Automatically track mileage in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Yeah I know how to setup a mileage rule.

I need a mileage rule so ALL trips will be sorted as BUSINESS.

I do delivery and go to many different places.

If I leave the start and end points blank or try * it doesn't allow me to save the rule.

Thanks for getting back to us, @timjkarp65.

Let me answer this query for you.

When you create a mileage rule, you'll have to add the starting and ending point on it. This way, the program could easily categorize your trips for you. Leaving it blank will not allow you to save the rule.

That does not work for my type of work.

I have another program (which is actually free) that is able to automatically categorize all trips as Business trips. It is a simple setting: Classify all trips as Business.

This is a requirement for anyone doing rideshare or delivery or any business where the trips are ad hoc.

We do not know where we will be going on any trip.

Otherwise we will have to go in and select trips and manually change them to Business

THIS IS A HUGE TAX DEDUCTION DOING THIS KIND OF WORK!

Maybe I am using the wrong program with Quickbooks self employed and should cancel my subscription.

I am still waiting for a solution to this problem.

There NEEDS to be a way to classify all trips as business automatically for any of the millions of people doing ride sharing or delivery.

I will be canceling my subscription otherwise...

There NEEDS to be a way to automatically classify ALL TRIPS as business for me and all the millions of ride sharing and delivery drivers who don't want to go back and classify all their trips manually.

I will be canceling my subscription otherwise.

Exactly my point! Maybe I need to subscribe to another app that has that easy classification button. I don't think it makes sense to categorize 50 trips manually when I don't even have an idea of the trips starting point and ending point. Quickbooks should add features where one can select multiple trips and automatically mark them as business or personal. Is that too much to ask?

Hi,

I don't think I've ever read a help thread where the question asked, is actually answered by an 'expert'. So frustrating.

I have the same issue of manually inputting these mileage trips. I am not an expert, however, have you tried setting the start and finish location both as 'England'?

Thanks

Hello, @CSibbick. Let me help with your mileage concern.

I've replicated your issue and try to enter England as the start and end address when manually entering a mileage, and I was able to do so.

To add trip manually, follow the below steps:

On a web browser:

  1. In the left menu, click Miles.
  2. Click the Add trip button at the upper right hand.
  3. Edit the Date.
  4. Enter the Start and End address
  5. In the Add miles field, set the distance.
  6. Add a Trip purpose note.
  7. Click Save.

On an iOS device (iPhone or iPad):

  1. Click the Mileage menu.
  2. Select the Plus icon (+).
  3. Click Create trip.
  4. Enter the trip details.
  5. Choose Save.

On an Android device (phone or tablet):

  1. Click the Menu ☰ icon.
  2. Choose the Mileage menu.
  3. Select the Plus icon (+).
  4. Click Add business trip.
  5. Enter the trip details.
  6. Click Save.

To know more about adding trips in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), see this article for a guide: Manually track mileage in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

If you want the system to track your miles automatically, here's an article that you can read: Automatically track mileage in QuickBooks Self-Employed. It contains information on how you can turn on the mileage tracking feature.
