Can I delete and entire payroll?

I moved from QBO back to desktop but did not get it started until after the first of the year.  I need to delete the January payroll so that my ending balance in QBO matches my desktop beginning balance.

Hello there miscoclub,

Thank you for reaching out to us!

Below are the steps on how to delete payroll checks in your QuickBooks Online or in QuickBooks Desktop and you'll  need to delete those one at a time.

Here's how you can delete a paycheck in QuickBooks Online:

  1. On the left panel, click Employees.
  2. Click An Employee, and go to the Paycheck list tab.
  3. Choose, and click a Paycheck.
  4. At the bottom menu, click Delete or Void.
  5. Put a Check Mark in the I understand that this action cannot be undone box.
  6. Click Delete Paycheck.

To delete a paycheck in QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Locate and Open the Paycheck.
  2. Click the Edit at the top menu bar and select Delete Paycheck (or Ctrl + D on your keyboard).
  3. The message Are you sure you want to delete this paycheck? message will appear. Click OK to permanently delete the transaction.

There is no delete or void button anywhere on the page when I click on the paycheck I want to remove.

Thanks for joining on this thread, sullivanshomest.

Let me point you in the right direction, so you can void the paychecks.

If these transactions are coming from the previous year, you'll no longer have the option to void/delete them. To keep your records in order, we'll have to access payroll information.

The process requires account verification which can’t be done in the Community for security reasons. I suggest you get in touch with our Payroll Support Team who have tools to process the payroll correction.

You can reach them by following these steps.

  1. Go to Help at the top, then click on the Contact Us link.
  2. In the How can we help you with? window, enter contact support in the field box.
  3. In the Ways we can connect with us section, select Message and Agent or We’ll call you.

After completing the process, these paychecks should no longer show in your account.

For future reference, I’m attaching a link with detailed instructions on what to do first before voiding or deleting paychecks:

Reach out to me if you have additional questions about payroll. Please know I’m always ready to assist further. Wishing you the best.

Re: Can I delete and entire payroll?

In the desktop version it says "you cannot delete a transaction that affects payroll taxes handled by the Payroll Service."

I did not pay the taxes through the service and did it on my own. How do I get rid of the paychecks and taxes that show still being due.

To further isolate the issue as to why you're getting the prompt message, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Support Team. This is for them to pull up your account and come up with a fix.

To contact our Customer support, here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company account.
  2. Click the Help icon on the top right.
  3. Click Contact Us button at the bottom.
  4. Enter a short description about your concern.
  5. Click on Let's talk.
  6. Choose the method on how you'd be connected to support.
