Welcome to Community marlene.dasanmar,

We're glad you've chosen us to help you manage your client's payroll transactions. Let me provide brief information about what these tax forms are for.

The DE34 tax form is also known as California Report of New Hires. This needs to be submitted within 20 days from the employee's start-to-work date regardless of whether they're newly hired or rehired.

All employers are required to file both the Quarterly Contribution Return and the Report of Wages (DE 9), and the Quarterly Contribution Return and Report of Wages (DE 9C) each quarter.

The DE 9 Tax Form shows all wages reported and taxes paid, while the DE 9C Tax Form reports individual employee wages for each quarter. Once a tax payment is due, it'll be submitted with a DE 88 or also known as Payroll Tax Deposit payment form.

Hello! If I were to only employ Independent Contractors, for whom I would file 1099s, would their compensation be subject to DE 9/DE 9C? Thank you!
