Can I pay an employee two different salaries in the same pay period because he received a pay raise?

Hello s3inc111c,

Yes, we can create another paycheck in the same period for your employee. Here's how to easily do it:

  1. Select Workers on the left menu an go to the Employees tab.
  2. Click the Run payroll button and select a pay schedule in the Run Payroll page.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. In the Run Payroll: (pay schedule) page, mark (✔) the employee you wan to create another paycheck.
  5. Click the Create another check for (employee) hyperlink.
  6. Enter the details and click Preview payroll.
  7. Select Submit payroll.

You can also create an unscheduled check for the current pay period all the way back to six moths ago. Review this article for more details: Create Unscheduled Payroll Checks.

With this, you'll be able to complete your payroll task with ease. Have a great day!

The question isn't about creating 2 checks, the question is about paying someone 2 different rates in the same period due to a pay raise.  We need a way to put in an effective date for the raise so that the old rate is used up to the date of the raise and the new rate is used only at the effective date and thereafter.

Thank you for clarifying, @janamccreary.

I’m happy to lead you in the right direction by paying an employee two different rates in a pay period.

Let me guide you on how to update an employee’s hourly rate:

  1. Select Employees from the left menu.
  2. Choose the employee's name and then find Edit employee.
  3. Under How much do you pay the employee, click the edit pencil.
  4. Pick Add an hourly rate and fill in the info.

Some customers have found this article about Pay multiple hourly rates

helpful:

Should you have other questions, feel free to shoot me another comment. I hope you have a great day.

Can you pay someone hourly.. and also Salary on the same payroll and paycheck.

We have a couple hourly people to pay at the end of 2020.. they are then Salary in 2021.

Can i put both on the same check?

Hi there, Nancy Clary.

You'll want to pay the employees twice for each pay type. After you have paid the employees for the last period of 2020, you can change the employee's set up for 2021. The steps provided by my colleague JamesDuanT will help you write a second check.
