Can I prepare my own 1099s or can I map the fields in your 1099 prep?

Using the QBO solution, I see that field mapping is preset and can't be modified which means that my fields won't match on the outbound 1099s. For example, I use a unique display name inside QBO that should not appear as the recipient's name on his 1099. Any help on this? Aso, is this an integration with tax1099? Perhaps I should register an account with them and then integrate it on the QBO app backend.

I appreciate your time getting back in here, @bookkeep.

Are you using an API that you can integrate with QuickBooks Online when mapping your 1099 form? If not, the fields in the form are preset. The option to modify them is unavailable.

On the other hand, if you're using an API, I suggest contacting our Developer Support so someone can help and fully address your concern about application integration. I'm here to help you accomplish this.

  1. Go to Intuit Developer Support.
  2. Select QuickBooks Online.
  3. Hit Ask a Question.
  4. Click Sign In.

For your concern about 1099 fees, you may consider checking out this link for more information: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/payroll/1099-efile/. You can also contact our support team to check your charges further.

I've also included this to guide you more with the 1099 form in QuickBooks.

We appreciate your patience as we work through this. If there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know. I'll be around to help you out.

Can I prepare my own 1099s or can I map the fields in your 1099 prep?

Hi there, grk2.

You have the option to prepare and map your 1099 forms. In doing so, make sure that you've tracked contractors eligible to 1099. This way, it would easier for you to prepare and map them.

I've added this reference for more information:

Can I prepare my own 1099s or can I map the fields in your 1099 prep?

Thanks.

Where specifically do I map the fields? For example, I don't see where I can map Recipient's name prior to paying you for e-filing service. I believe it is mapped to Display.Name.

Additionally, I am inquiring as to whether your service does not permit me to prepare my own 1099s without incurring an access fee to you in order to my own data.

Please advice to both,

Hi there, bookkeep.

I'm here to share some information about how Form-1099 works.

When you enter the contractor and track their payments for 1099s, QuickBooks will automatically map their personal information, such as recipient names to the tax form. If you haven't done this yet, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Expenses menu, then select Vendors.
  2. Choose the vendor you want to track and open their profile.
  3. Click the Edit button.
  4. Tick the Track payments for 1099 checkbox, then hit Save to complete the process.

Once done, you'll have to map the tracked payments to ensure that they'll be reflected in the correct boxes. Please refer to the Step 3 section of this article to be guided in doing it: Create and file 1099s.

With regard to the fee, you can always prepare your 1099 tax forms for free as long as you have an active payroll subscription, then manually file them to the IRS. Take note the IRS requires you to send 1099s on pre-printed paper forms. You may purchase 2020 pre-printed 1099-MISC/NEC kits here. Each bundle includes1099-MISC/NEC tax forms (two tax forms per page), four 1096 paper forms, and compatible double-window envelopes.

If you're referring to the 1099 E-File service, the price starts at $14.99. This includes creating and electronically filing up to three 1099-MISC/NEC forms to the IRS. For each additional form, you'll be charged $3.99. Feel free to visit our website for more information about the plans and pricing.

Additionally, I recommend reading this guide to help resolve comment errors on 1099 tax forms: Correcting Forms 1099-MISC.

Mapping:

Concerning mapping, I am specifically referring to text fields, not the payment fields. I fully understand that it automatically maps these fields which is what I specifically don't want it to do - or at least, I want to modify this mapping because my Display.Name field is unique to my business and should not show up on a government or client facing form.  I cannot modify this piece because your API is poorly structured and very limited.

Printing 1099s on My Own:

Concerning the 1099 fees and your disclosures, I as your customer would appreciate your help desk communicating with more clarity and truth regarding hidden fees. I asked how to perform this action on my own without hidden fees, and twice, your help desk has responded with half truths stating that I can perform the action for free "with a payroll subscription" or "with the purchase of a 1099 kit". These are additional fees paid to you.  I have owned your desktop version for years and years and the value proposition provides very robust software for ~$200 and 3 years of updates (equates to $66/year) and I can create an unlimited number of entities. Now, I am migrating to your server-based version, which costs me $900 / year / entity, and you have stripped down the software offering into multiple subscription packages.  I cannot create any additional entities. Don't you think that a $1,360% price increase, I would be able to accomplish tasks such as printing my own 1099s without incurring additional fees and limiting my customization? If I printed these on my own, I would pay $0.50 / form at Amazon or Office Depot, an envelop $0.08, and a stamp $0.50 = $1.08. Or I have to order a kit from you for $59 or subscribe to additional online monthly billed software.  This is quite unfortunate.
