Can I process scheduled payroll a day early without changing settings?

I would like to run payroll one day early since I will be on vacation when the actual scheduled date for payroll will occur. Can I just go ahead as normal and start a scheduled payroll and the process will go as planned?

Yes, you can run the payroll anytime you want, dated on the regular payroll day.  If all of your employees are salary it's pretty easy to create the payroll early.  If hourly, the gating factor is usually getting the time to pay, but in this sort of case sometimes it's easy to estimate it and then make up the difference on the next payroll.

Is this true of quickbooks online too?  Because I was just told that's not possible from a QBO payroll specialist.

Hello there, @Bjoat.

Thanks for joining this conversation. Allow me to chime in for a moment and share information about running payroll in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Yes! You can run payroll anytime. As long as the Pay Period and the Pay Date are correct. Here's how:

For QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP):

1. Go to the Workers menu at the left panel, then pick Employees.
2. Choose a pay schedule, then Continue.
3. Select the employees you want to pay and check if you have the correct pay period and check/pay date, then enter the hours and amounts.
4. Click Preview Payroll to continue, then submit.

For Intuit Online Payroll (IOP):

1. Click Payday, then choose a pay schedule if you have more than one.
2. Enter in hours and amounts for employees, then select Create Paychecks.
3. Confirm the paycheck amounts and the payment method, then click Approve Paychecks.
4. Choose OK.

For future reference, you can also check out this article for further guidance: Create paychecks in online payroll.

That should answer your concern for today. Please let me know how it goes or if I can be of additional assistance. I'm always here if you have any follow-up questions. Cheers!

Welcome to the Community, @michelledonohoe.

Funds are taken out of your account when your employees encash their checks. Let me discuss this further.

If you’re using paper checks, funds are only taken out from your bank account when they encash their checks.

However, if you use direct deposit, there’s two-day processing of payrolls. Your employees may receive their wages on the pay date.

I have been using Quick Books Online and I wanted to know if you can run payroll for one employee (they are leaving and require their final pay and are not able to wait)  Can I re-run Payroll for everyone else on the scheduled time? It sounds as though I can but I do not want to presume that and mess up everyone else's pay.
