Can I set up Child Support wage garnishment as a liability to pay?

Hi there @ollies3sister,

The child support garnishment is set to payroll liabilities by default. Let me walk you through how to check it. Let me walk you through where you check your set up.

  1. Go to Lists, Payroll Item List.
  2. Double-click the child support garnishment item, then hit Next.
  3. In the Liability account drop-down, verify if you have selected the Payroll Liabilities account. Choose the payroll liability account if it isn't the account posted.
  4. Click Next until Finish.

After that, go back to your Payroll Center to set up a scheduled payment. This will set a reminder in your payroll center when it's due to pay.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Employees, then Payroll Center.
  2. Scroll down to Other Activities and click the Change Payment Method link.
  3. In the QuickBooks Payroll Setup window, select Benefit & Other Payments and then Schedule Payments.
  4. Highlight the child support item, then Edit.
  5. Enter a Payee, Account #, Payment frequency. Then, Finish.
  6. Hit Finish.

I've got his handy article that you can read for more information about setting up and paying scheduled or custom (unscheduled) liabilities. In case you need some handy articles for your future tasks, please visit our page. Here's the link: Topics for QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.
