Can I set up multiple work comp codes per employee?

I have employees working in Idaho, Montana and Washington. How do I separate the hours for Work Comp? I also need to know where to input the rates.

Can I set up multiple work comp codes per employee?

Let me share some information about work comp codes, CBailey24.

The option to set up multiple work comp codes per employee is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, we can add the list of codes and rates in your payroll settings through the Tax Setup. Let me guide you on how to do it:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Payroll settings.
  3. Choose the Tax Setup tab
  4. Select the state for Workers Compensation Tax Setup.
  5. Click the Add Class and Subclass link.
  6. In the Risk Classification Class and Subclasses then, enter the rate in the fields.
  7. Hit OK once done.

You can check this article for more information on how to assign workers' compensation classes to your employees in QuickBooks: Assign a Workers' Comp Class to an employee. We can also pull up and view the Worker's Compensation report to get the details of how much you need to pay. Here's how:

  1. From the left menu, select Reports.
  2. In the search field, enter Workers' Compensation.
  3. Or under All, scroll down and locate Payroll.
  4. Click Workers' Compensation.
  5. Change the date range as needed, then click Run Report.
  6. Select the Wages Paid amount for a particular Workers' Compensation class.
  7. If you don't enter classes for your employees, the report is sorted by employee name.

I've additionally included a couple of detailed resources about working with workers' compensation which may come in handy moving forward:
