Can you write one check to an employee who is being paid for monthly hourly work and biweekly salary work?

I have several employees who are paid on different schedules for different work - monthly and biweekly. Monthly payroll is the first Wednesday of the month, biweekly payroll is also on a Wednesday. For example, on 10/6/21 the two payroll schedules coincided. It would be great to be able to issue one check but I've been told that is impossible. I'm told I need to process separately - so, I process the biweekly payroll where the employee is paid a salary and includes any deductions for health insurance or 401K. I then have to change the employment details - the pay schedule changes to monthly, the pay type changes to hourly, and deductions need to be removed. The employee gets two checks and I have to remember to change his details back to biweekly for the next payroll. I can't believe there isn't a better solution. Please help.

Can you write one check to an employee who is being paid for monthly hourly work and biweekly salary work?

Hello thisisfrustrating,

Thank you for sharing your concern with the Community! The good news is, you do not have to go through all those processes. You would simply need to do an unscheduled payroll for the monthly or bi-weekly schedule, so there is no need to change the schedule each time. However, depending on your QuickBooks Payroll Online subscription, there are different ways to do this. The article below shows the steps to create unscheduled checks in Online Payroll.

If you have any questions or need clarification with the steps, I will be more than happy to address them. Take care and be safe.
