Quickbooks email sent a notice on August 8, 2019 that the IRS EFTPS program is requiring password changes. QB suggest passwords be changed before September 19, 2019. New passwords must be 12-30 characters old passwords were 8-12 characters. I changed my password for EFTPS, now I am trying to update the EFTPS password in quickbooks desktop pro 2019 version R9P. When making an electronic payroll tax deposit in QB, I entered my new password, but QB does not accept it. I get an red circle with ? mark in it. message says passwords must be 8-12 characters long. QB will not accept a password 12-30 characters long.

I have already to changed password on EFTPS website. I am having trouble changing EFTPS password in Quickbooks. the Electronic deposit page on Quickbooks only allows 8-12 characters, but the IRS is requiring 12-30 characters. it looks likes quicksbook has not updated this feature on the EFTPS page on Quickbooks
I have changed the EFTPS password at IRS.GOV. i am having issues change the same password on quickbooks desktop pro. the landing page for the payroll tax deposit that show the IRS Pin and EFTPS password, only accepts a password of 8-12 characters. the new IRS EFTPS requirements state the password should be 12-30 characters. it is as if quickbooks has not updated the password criteria on the payroll tax deposit landing page
Thanks for getting back to us, @ PekingGuidry.
The new EFTPS password requirement will take effect on October 24, 2019. This means the 12-30 character password will work when sending tax deposits on or after that date.
For now, you can still use your old/existing 8-12 password to submit the tax payments.

So, QuickBooks gave the wrong date. The email notice stated the password had to be changed by September 19, 2019. Now, those of us that believed you need to go back to EFTPS and change it to a password that is NOT longer than 12 characters, then change QuickBooks to match.
Thanks for the apology for the misinformation and the added work. Good Job!
Now when I go into EFTPS to change my password it says a password can only be changed every 10 days. Now what do I do about my tax payment this week?
Hello there, @RM2CM.
I appreciate you for posting your concern here in the Community. I'm here to provide some clarification about the email you've received on changing EFTPS password.
Our customers will receive an email this early September once the system detected that you haven't changed your password for the last 13 months. This will ensure that you're able to change your EFTPS password before the effective date to make sure you can send your payment successfully.
If you recently updated your password with 8-12 characters, it will still work.
For additional reference, you can check this article to learn more about the new EFTPS Internet password update: Update your EFTPS Internet password.
Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any other questions about the EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System). I'd be happy to answer them for you.
We have already passed EARLY SEPTEMBER. The problem is many of us changed the EFTPS password and used more than 12 characters thinking the email we received from QB was correct. It was not. QB has not updated that feature in payroll so our passwords cannot match. We cannot change our EFTPS password for 10 days in order to comply with QB requirements. Our taxes are due today and we cannot send a payment.
This seems like a duplicate post, RM2CM.
