Change wage base for MN Unemployment or SUI

Why can't I update the Wage base for state unemployment?  I have read that this is a QB matter with updates.  Anyway our desktop is all updated along with payroll.  Do I have to contact Intuit directly to get this fixed?

Change wage base for MN Unemployment or SUI

Usually the tax tables will be updated each year with the new limits for taxes that have limits, though sometimes the updates come after the new year. In turn when that happens it's often because the states pass legislation late.

Based on your review of the tax table update news that appears when you force a tax table update, has MN UI been updated for 2024?

Change wage base for MN Unemployment or SUI

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, utilitree. I appreciate your detailed information.

Your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate is set by the state you do business in and will be unique to your business. If you're a new employer, states won't assign you a rate until you file unemployment taxes for a certain period of time.

States usually send our updated rate notices toward the end of the year, or beginning of a new year. Once you have your new rate, you can update it in payroll. This keeps the SUI tax liability accurate.

Here's how:

  1. In your top menu bar, go to Lists, then Payroll Item List.
  2. Double-click [state abbreviation] - Unemployment Company.
  3. Hit Next until you reach the Company tax rates window.
  4. Enter your correct rates for each quarter.
  5. Select Next, then Finish.

If you have surcharges or assessments, you may need to update additional rates in QuickBooks:

  1. Go to the Lists menu, then Payroll Item List.
  2. Double-click State Surcharge item.
  3. Select Next and follow your onscreen steps.
  4. On the Company Tax Rate screen, enter your rate as a percentage.

I've also included a detailed resource about working with payroll which may come in handy moving forward: Update your SUI rate

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful Tuesday!
