Changing state unemployment payment to e-pay

Hi birk,

Thanks for reaching out to Community!

I'm here to help. Michigan State requires submitting an electronic payment directly to the state agency's website. It's best to call your state agency or visit their website to assist you further. However, for recording purposes in QuickBooks, you can hit View/Pay button to remove the liability from the liability window.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have other questions. Have a great day!

Changing state unemployment payment to e-pay

It's nice to have you in the Community, vpuruganan,

I can provide information in setting up your account to e-pay to EDD and IRS.

To start, you'll need to set up payments for Federal Forms, here's how:

  1. Enroll in the federal Electronic Tax Payment System (EFTPS).
  2. Set up E-Pay for Forms 940 and 941/944 tax payments in QuickBooks Desktop.

Once done, you're now ready to set up scheduled e-payments.

Keep in mind that before you can e-pay Federal tax forms, you must have the following requirements:

  • An active QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Enhanced account
  • A supported version of QuickBooks Desktop
  • An internet connection
  • A most recent payroll update
  • You are enrolled to EFTPS.
  • You have the 4-digit EFTPS PIN and the Internet Password that you obtain after enrolling to EFTPS.

If you need further assistance with the steps, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care support. They have additional tools to pull up your account and do a remote session.

To contact us, here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top.
  2. Click QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. On the pop-up, scroll down and click the blue Contact us link.
  4. Fill out the Tell us more about your question field and click Search.
  5. Click the Get Phone Number button.

As always, if you have any additional questions, feel free to visit the Community again. I'd be glad to answer it for you. Have a great day!

Changing state unemployment payment to e-pay

I am in VA.  It did the same thing to me.  We file electronically directly on the state website.  When I hit View/Pay, it just gives me an error message "To do this task, you must first set up a bank account for e-pay"

Welcome to the Community, @deniseacctsolutions. I can share with you some ideas about setting up E-pay for unemployment payment.

To view the state unemployment report, let's ensure to set up a bank account as the default for payroll in QuickBooks Desktop. To do this, let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Edit menu, then select Preferences.
  2. From the column on the left, click Checking.
  3. Choose the Company Preferences tab.
  4. Select Open the Create Paycheck checkbox and choose the bank account. Otherwise, select the Open the Pay Liabilities checkbox. And select the bank account.
  5. Click Ok to save the changes.

For more details, I encourage you to browse this article: Change bank account you use to make e-payment for tax liabilities.

Also, I'm adding this resource that you can read to stay compliant with state rules and regulations: Michigan Payroll Tax Compliance.

Feel free to comment down below if you have other payroll concerns with QuickBooks. I'll make sure to answer them for you. Have a nice day.

Changing state unemployment payment to e-pay

The problem is that these are after-the-fact payrolls.  The client and/or our office signs in directly with VA unemployment website to file and pay the taxes.  So, all I really need to do is view the form in QB to make sure it's the same as what they filed and then record the payment they made.  But it won't let me view the form or record payment.  Suddenly today, the only option for VA unemployment in the payroll setup is "Epay" and as soon as I click on the form or the liability, I get the same error message, "To do this task, you must have a bank account set up for epay in QuickBooks".  This is crazy!  My clients that have already paid the tax are not going to want me setting up their bank accounts electronically through Intuit.  There has to be some way around this!  I went to the preferences like you suggested, but I already had the QB bank account setup in those fields that you mentioned

I can see that there are separate threads that have similar questions about your concern.

Let me share these links so you can follow the steps provided in this thread: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/employees-and-payroll/new-update-makes-e-pay-manda...

The QuickBooks team literally directed deniseacctsolutions to her own thread for the solution. However this thread also hasn't been solved. QB team your supposed to provide solutions not waste peoples time.
