Direct deposit payment to wrong account number

I just set up direct deposit for my contractors. This past Friday I sent a direct deposit payment to one of my contractors but I had entered his bank account information wrong. The funds were still debited from my account and sent to the wrong account. Any way this can be reversed?

Direct deposit payment to wrong account number

Hi there, miltonjr.

Once you've sent an automatic deposit to the wrong account, you may be able to reverse it to retract the payment. Before you reverse a deposit, please check the list below if you meet the following criteria:

  • It's less than 5 days past the check date of the transaction you want to reverse.

  • The reason for the reversal is in compliance with ACH or EFT laws. Reasons can include duplicate payments, unintended or erroneous payment and/or the amount paid was significantly different than what was owed to the receiver of the payment.

  • The total amount(s) to be reversed is more than $50.

  • Reversals can only be processed for the full amount of the direct deposit. Partial amounts can't be reversed.

  • The direct deposit isn't for a current employee.

If you satisfy the criteria above to fill out a reversal, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They have the tools to pull up your account and walk you through the payment reversal process.

Here's how on how to contact them:

1. Open your QuickBooks Account.

2. At the top right, click the Help icon.

3. Click Contact Us.

4. Under What can we help you with?, enter any concerns.

5. Click Let's Talk.

6. You'll be routed into the Choose a way to connect with us page.

7. Select how you want to contact them and fill in the information.
