That's basically the alignment instruction within the program. They are not helpful at all. Moving the "grid" to where is would appear on the form, moves the print range the opposite direction @Anonymous. Spending WAY too much time on this!!!
I am having the same problems - none of the alignment suggestions work and I've spent an hour already which is way too much time. The desktop version works just fine. Any suggestions other than what the instructions tell you to do?
I have spent hours! trying to get the 1099s to print right. I have looked at every article I could find and nothing works! I am giving up and hand writing the 1099s! I have no problems with the desk top version. I am recommending to all my clients to go back to the desk top version of QB.
There are possible situations why the forms are not aligned. Let me discuss a few of them.
Please make sure that you're using a QuickBooks Online-compatible 1099 forms. To add, the only forms we're able to support alignment troubleshooting are forms you've purchased directly from Intuit. You can refer to this article for more details: QuickBooks Compatible 1099 Forms.
However, if you're using QuickBooks Online-compatible 1099 forms and can't get them aligned, I recommend contacting our Customer Support. This way, they can help you fix it further.

I called the QB help number this morning and the woman I spoke to gave me the answer to the alignment problem. When you open the document to print, choose Custom Scale - do not change this from 100% - and then print on a blank page and check the alignment - mine was off slightly so I changed the vertical alignment manually (back on that page where the grid showed up) and then re-printed and it worked just fine. The alignment I used was H 28 and V 0. I couldn't get the 1096 to work perfectly, but it was pretty good. The 1099s were perfect. Hope this helps.

I have been frustrated for a few days on this. My desktop clients worked fine. It was just the QBO clients.

To QB : Your instructions do not tell us what part of the alignment grid to line up. So your instructions do not help out
