Employee doesn't have SUI tax box checked in payroll

Rest assured, I'm here to help you correct the PAUC quarterly report by updating their payroll settings to include the SUI tax, TJS32. We can resolve this issue together.

First off, put a checkmark in the SUI box. Then, delete and recreate the paycheck if it has not been processed. If processed, you can make a liability adjustment using the steps below.

  1. Create a dummy paycheck to determine the amount that was not withheld.
  2. Get the total number of hours from all affected paychecks in the quarter.
  3. Enter it in the dummy paycheck with the corresponding payroll item and rate, and click anywhere so QB will calculate taxes.
  4. Take note of the calculated SUI amount in the Company Summary section.

After determining the amount, we can create a liability adjustment for the affected employee.

  1. Go to Employees, then Payroll Taxes and Liabilities.
  2. Select Adjust Payroll Liabilities.
  3. In the Date field, enter the day you created the adjustment.
  4. In the Effective Date field, enter the last day of the affected quarter.
  5. In the Adjustment is for: section, select Employee.
  6. Choose the name of the employee in the drop list.
  7. In the ITEM NAME field, select the SUI payroll item.
  8. Enter the determined amount in the AMOUNT field.
  9. Click Accounts Affected, choose Affect liability and expense accounts, and click OK.

  10. Confirm the adjustment by clicking OK again.

After making these adjustments, you're now set to run your PAUC report for the quarter correctly reflecting the SUI contributions.
