Join nowHello,
I use QuickBooks 2017 Desktop Premiere Contractor Edition with assisted payroll.
I am trying to add SOC codes for 3 new employees. On the employee's first page in payroll setup, the email address box is highlighted in red and the error says the email address is already in use. Yes, they are in use, by those employees and their paystubs have sent to these email addresses just fine. My problem is that it will not allow me to go past this page to get to the page to enter the SOC codes. I have tried to edit this information but cannot get the error to resolve. Has anyone else had this issue?
Thank you!
Happy to help, @sami34. Hope you're having a great day so far.
You can add SOC codes to existing employees by following these quick steps:

Thank you Michael!
That is what I am trying to do. The problem is that it will not let me hit continue to get to the SOC codes due to the error with the employee email on the first page of the employee's information. It will not allow me to move on until that is resolved. I have no idea how to resolve this because as it appears, everything is correct. The email address is valid, entered for the employee, and has been used to send paystubs already. I don't see that there is an issue, but QuickBooks is saying that the email address is already in use.
Any further advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for providing an update, @sami34.

I have the same issue. Seems QuickBooks has added a check on the email address. This error prevents the employee record from being edited, unless the admin wants to use a different email address.
Is there a pending update for this error?
Greetings, @paul922.
Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to isolate this issue. I suggest to run the repair tool in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Let me guide you how.
Before we start, I recommend to back up your company file in case we run into some errors. Then, you can proceed to these steps:
Once done, update your QuickBooks to the latest release to have the most recent fixes and security updates in your QBDT.
