Buy nowWe have spent hours on the phone with QB and they keep making things worse. Very disappointing. We have an employee that moved to FL from GA. Company is GA registered and we all work remotely from home offices so when she moved she kept her job from there. We cannot get QB to stop taking GA taxes out even though I have changed her profile on QB to exempt GA taxes.
Hi, Carisse. I appreciate your patience and effort in spending time working on this. Let’s focus on getting this sorted out. QuickBooks triggers Georgia (GA) withholding based on the home and work addresses on file. You’ll have to ensure both locations are updated to the new state, which is in Florida (FL), as an exemption alone will not resolve the underlying address conflict.
Here's how:
Since this is a work-from-home setup, you'll have to confirm that the employee's home and work addresses are matched. This alignment is necessary to trigger the correct state tax settings.
You can refer to the steps below:
Next, let's go back to the employee profile, go to the Employment details section, click Edit, and verify the Work location. If GA is still selected, choose the correct location from the dropdown or click +Add work location to create a new one. Make sure the state reflects the Florida address where your employee works.
After updating the home address and work locations, the system should withhold Florida taxes. However, since Florida has no state income tax, not seeing any Florida withholding is expected.
If you're done verifying these things, we can run a test by creating a preview of your employees' next paycheck and checking whether the tax section for GA will no longer appear. If so, you can proceed with payroll.
Let me know how it works for you.
