Join nowI am a self-employed designer with no employees. I am considering switching to Quickbooks Online and am trying to determine if it's possible to enter hours worked in the time tracker by the time clock method - that is, I enter the hour and minute I started work, then clock out when not working on a project. I'm often taking phone calls for on going projects and may work on several different accounts in a given day, and I need a flexible way of entering more precise time data. Even better would be that if I note a time that overlaps another job, then the program would automatically detect that - phone call interruptions are especially hard to remember to track.
If this is possible in Quickbooks, any links to the experiences of how other self-employed people who bill hourly track time in Quickbooks or tutorials would be useful.
Also, can Quickbooks track hours for fixed fee jobs in this time clock manner also? I'm always assessing whether my fixed fee jobs where profitable in order to make more accurate proposals in the future, but have not had the accounting software knowledge to do this previously

In regards to your #8 instruction: In the tracking page, will a field show that you can enter time of day? I saw a video that showed you can "Enter the number of hours and minutes worked in the Time field", as you have described it - can you enter a start and finish clock time and have Quickbooks calculate the time interval?
As soon as I am able, I'll download a trail version to see how things work. Thanks for the link to the Help Guide!
It's good to see you again in the Community, @hausfxr.
Let me share insights about entering work hours by clock time in QuickBooks.
Currently, the option to work hours by clock time is unavailable in QuickBooks Self-Employed. If you signed up for a QuickBooks Online trial version, you can input a start and finish clock time. This will allow QuickBooks to calculate the time interval.
You can follow the steps that were previously posted by my colleague, ChristieAnn. Then, you'll see this page for Step 8:
