Re: Filling history is gone from Payroll file forms

The history of your tax form filings, printed or eFiled, is saved on your hard drive in a folder under the folder where you have saved your company file, a folder with a name based on your file's name.

If you rename or move your file, then this will happen.  If you rename it back (and put it back where it was on your computer if you moved it) then your filings will appear again in QuickBooks. Or you can copy and/or name the folder to match your new file's name (unless someone deleted the folder where the files are saved.)

Re: Filling history is gone from Payroll file forms

When I say, Filling history is gone, I mean it was there before and now it is not.  Therefore, I have filed forms before and had many forms in the history box.  Now that box or area is empty.  I don't know what I have filed and cannot look at anything I have done in the past with this feature.  updating payroll did nothing.  I keep my payroll updated always.  I would appreciate some help.

Thank you,

Re: Filling history is gone from Payroll file forms

I appreciate you getting back regarding your tax filing history, @jjones4137.

Let me help provide additional steps you can perform in locating your previously archived forms.

Since the payroll forms were not showing on your Saved Filings under Filing History, we can locate it in the Tax Form History folder.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop and press F2 on your keyboard.
  2. Under the FILE INFORMATION section, copy the company file location and find it on your computer.
  3. From that location, there is a Tax Form History. (Ex. C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Sample Company Files\QuickBooks 20xx\(Company Name) Tax Form History).
  4. Click the folder of the archived form that you need. Folder name will have 941, W2, etc. in the title.

You should be able to locate the previous forms with these steps. For other articles you might want to check for future use, you can click the following links below.

Let me know how it goes. I'll be here if you need further help with your previous payroll forms.
