Fix the paid Payroll Liabilities error in Quickbook desktop

I entered the wrong hours for one employee and created the paycheck (Handwrite) and paid the related liabilities through Quickbook E-pay (EFTP).  So I went ahead and voided the payccheck for that employee and do an unscheduled payroll only for him.  It was more hours than the original paycheck.  Once the unscheduled payroll done, it shows the Federal Witholding to be paid.  I went ahead and paid that as well throught Quickbook E-pay (EFTP).  Since then, Quickbook kept popping up a window saying data problem and suggest me to rebuild data, and it even did not allow me to create back up.

So I ran "Verify data" and found out the data problem related to these two paycheck entry.  Does anybody know how to manual fix it?  I prefer not to use rebuild data, cause it may potentially cause other problems.

Thanks

Hello, NicoleFeng.

I can definitely help you manually fix the damaged paychecks. Although, it's fine to use the Rebuild Data since this fixes most data issues in the company file.

We can delete the two paychecks, then recreate the one you entered to correct the employee's payroll. To delete them:

  1. Go to the Employees menu, then choose Payroll Center.
  2. Go to the Transactions tab in the left panel, then choose Paychecks
  3. Find and select the "damaged" paycheck by double-clicking on it.
  4. Click the Delete icon.
  5. Do this again for the other damaged paycheck entry.

Next, recreate the corrected paycheck by running an unscheduled payroll again.

After recreating it, let's run the Verify Data tool again to ensure there's no data issue. You can follow the same steps you did.

After fixing the issue, you can run payroll reports to ensure your employees' year-to-date data is accurate. You can run the Payroll Summary report as an example. Simply go to the Reports menu, hover your mouse on Employees & Payroll, then choose Payroll Summary

You can also run other payroll reports, too. You can browse our articles to guide you on how to pull them up: Run payroll reports in QuickBooks.

I'm more than happy to offer additional help with your payroll. You can also ask questions on other areas in QuickBooks Desktop.
