I want to stop this from happening to you, @pobzebmuas4.

I know how important it is to have accurate payroll data in your company. I'll make sure that it is taken care of immediately.

We want to ensure correct taxes are calculated so the right amounts are paid and filed to the IRS. QuickBooks will calculate taxes depending on the preferences that you set up. There are several reasons why payroll taxes aren't calculating. Among these are:

  • The total annual salary exceeds the salary limit.
  • The gross wages of the employee's last payroll are too low.

I'd recommend running the Payroll Tax and Wage Summary. This report shows detailed information about how QuickBooks calculates tax amounts on employee paychecks and the wage base limit for each employee for each tax.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports and select Standard.
  2. Type Payroll Tax and Wage Summary in the search bar.
  3. Select This Year, then Apply.
  4. Choose the tax type you want to see the wage base for.

Once confirmed and the issue persists, I'd suggest contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team. They can do screen-sharing and review your account to know the root cause of the problem. Also, they can process an adjustment if they find out that there's a discrepancy with the calculation of your taxes.

Here's how:

  1. Go to this link to contact support outside the product: QBO Support
  2. Choose your product in the drop-down.
  3. n and click Continue.
  4. Pick your QuickBooks edition and type your concern in the field.
  5. Select the appropriate option.

Check out their availability to ensure a swift response: Contact QuickBooks support.

I don't have a way to adjust how much is being charged for 940 taxes.  This is federal unemployment tax.  Something is wrong on your end
