Hello there, sugarplum1seanet.
I'm glad you reach out for help about filing tax forms. Let me guide you through the whole process of preparing your Quarterly 941 Form from last year's fourth quarter.
In QuickBooks Desktop, you cannot file a previous period return electronically because the forms will be updated to 2019. What you can do is to manually send in a paper form which you can download from irs.gov and fill out using data from that quarter.
Since you've already entered the data in QuickBooks, you can open a Tax Form Worksheets from the Reports to pull up the last year's 941 form details.
I'd be happy to walk you through the steps below:
- Go to Reports and choose Employees and Payroll.
- Select More Payroll Reports in Excel and click Tax Form Worksheets.
- An Excel worksheet will open and click on the Enable Content button.
- From the QuickBooks Tax Worksheets window, select Quarterly 941 and choose Last Quarter.
- Click on Create Report to start manually copying the details from the Excel sheet to your form 941.
To get the previous year's 941 form, please check out through this link: List of Prior Year Forms & Pubs.
For future reference, allow me to share this article that provides helpful information about filing tax forms in QuickBooks Desktop: Process, print, and save QuickBooks Desktop Payroll tax forms.
