There's several possibilities as to why payroll taxes won't withhold. I've listed some common reasons below:
- There's updates that need to be performed.
- The total annual salary exceeds its limit.
- The gross wages of your employee's last pay cycle were too low.
Let's start troubleshooting by making sure your QuickBooks is up-to-date:
- Access your books.
- Press F2 (or Ctrl + 1) on your keyboard to display the Product Information window.
- Check the version and release. I've listed our three current releases for each product below:
QuickBooks Desktop 2018 - Release 15 (R15)
QuickBooks Desktop 2019 - Release 12 (R12)
QuickBooks Desktop 2020 - Release 7 (R7)
You'll also want to confirm you're using the latest tax table release. Since an employee's tax setup can also affect how these are calculated, be sure to review it for any discrepancies.
