How can I modify a deduction for one paycheck for one employee?

How can I modify a deduction for one paycheck for one employee? This is a discretionary deduction not required for taxes, etc.

With Manage Payroll a year or two ago, I was able to edit these items.  Now I can only see how to edit payments to the employee, not deductions.  My subscription is for QuickBooks Online Payroll Core.

Thank you for providing complete details. Here some basic troubleshooting steps, so you can modify the discretionary deduction quickly. 

 

You can change the employee deduction by opening the paycheck. Make sure that the status is not yet processed to accomplish this.

 

Let me walk you through this: 

  1. Go to Payroll, then choose the Overview tab. 
  2. Select the View paycheck list hyperlink. 
  3. Locate and click the employee paycheck, then click Edit
  4. Modify the Discretionary deduction box and tap OK

 

If the issue persists, I'd recommend logging in to your account through an incognito window. This way, we can see if it's browser-related.

 

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox)
  •  Control Option (Safari)
  •  Ctrl + Shift + P (Microsoft Edge)

 

From there, modify the deduction again. If that works, please return to your regular browser and clear the cache to clean the slate.

  1. Go to the Help menu, then click Contact Us

Thanks for your guidance. It is almost the complete solution.

Here are some points to improve your guide.

-It’s necessary to “Submit Payroll” in order for a new paycheck to appear in the Paycheck list.

-When I went to Paycheck List, I saw "Scheduled" as the "Status" of my item.

-When I clicked anywhere on the paycheck row, the Paycheck screen is displayed, showing the detail of the paycheck.

Clicking Edit activates the Edit Paycheck screen. There are many boxes where the user can make changes, including the discretionary deductions. It was necessary to click the arrow next to Employee Deductions in order to expand that section.
