Helping you re-run the Export Payroll Transactions is my priority, cbmath. Let's get started.

Before we re-run the exporting process, you might want to check and retrieve the .IIF file by following the steps below:

  1. Go to Payday and select Paycheck List.
  2. From the Export section, select Preferences.
  3. Select the paychecks you want to export, then select Export. This will download the .IIF file automatically.
  4. The downloaded .IIF file will show at the bottom of your browser. Don't open the file, just save it in your folders. If the downloaded file does not appear at the bottom, check your downloads folder.
  5. You can now proceed in importing the .IIF files into your QuickBooks.

However, if there are no files to retrieve, here are the steps to export your transactions:

  1. Go to the Employees menu and choose Payroll.
  2. From the Payday tab, select Export to QuickBooks.
  3. Select the paychecks or tax payments you want to export. You can change the date range to view other transactions.
  4. Select Export.
  5. Review the payroll data, then hit Export.

To know more about this process, here's an article with detailed information: Export Intuit Online Payroll transactions to QuickBooks for Windows or Mac (IIF). On the same link, this will provide you answers to basic questions on how exporting process works in QuickBooks.

Please know I'm ready to assist further and answer any follow-up questions you have in mind. Just leave a reply below and I'll be sure to get back to you. Have a good one.

Hi Rose,

I wanted to export my previous payroll transactions so I could import them into my desktop QB.  However, when I go to export transactions, it states no new transactions.  I was not able to import them last time so I need that file again. Please see attachment of a screenshot.

Please help.

Hello cbmath!

Let me join this post so I can assist you in exporting the payroll transactions.

Intuit Online Payroll has an option to hide or show all the exported transactions. We need to make sure to include the exported ones so you can re-export them. Please follow these steps:

  1. From the Payday tab, select (4) Export to QuickBooks.
  2. Set the date range and click the Show checks & payments already exported.
  3. Select the paychecks or tax payments you want to export.
  4. Tap Export.

Also, you'll want to check your browser's default download location so you can retrieve the IIF file from there. Another way to export them is by clicking the Paycheck List from the Payday tab. Set the correct date range, then tap Update Report. Make sure to put a checkmark on those paychecks you want to export, then tap Export.

If this behavior continues, please reach out to our Payroll Support Team so they can further investigate it.

your advise has helped me to fix the same issue that I had with exporting employee payroll payments. Now, can you tell me how to do the same with contractor payments? There was an error when exporting from QB online to QB desktop for Mac. It thinks that it exported the contractor payments so it says that there are no new payments to export. How can I go in and manually select the contractor payments that need to be exported?

Hello there, jasonhowie81.

I lay some information about exporting contractor's payments in QuickBooks Online.

If your using the new QuickBooks Online standalone payroll, the option to export contractor's payments is currently unavailable. They can only be exported when selecting the Export transactions in the Payroll Settings window. However, the IIF(Intuit Interchange Format) file is only available in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows. For further details, please see this article: Export into QuickBooks Online or Desktop from Core, Premium, or Elite Standalone Payroll.

As a workaround, you can view the list of payments by going to the contactor's profile. Then, you can manually record them to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. I've included the following resource for more insights:
