How can I use quickbooks payroll to comply with California Paid Sick Leave?

Hello, 85735808.

I'd like to help you out but I need more details from you.

For the compliance, are you trying to follow the California COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave compliance in QuickBooks? Or is it just the regular compliance for paid sick leave for California employees?

More details would definitely help, so I can lay down the steps to guide you through.

How can I use quickbooks payroll to comply with California Paid Sick Leave?

Thanks-

I am referring to the law that requires all employers (even small business like mine w part time employees) to provide paid sick leave. It has nothing to do w the Covid leave.

Thanks!

How can I use quickbooks payroll to comply with California Paid Sick Leave?

Hi, thanks. Not the Covid related leave-

This is the CA law that requires all employers, even small businesses like mine w part time employees, to provide a certain number of paid sick leave hours based upon the hours the employee worked in the year.

I was wondering if QB Online payroll had a way to track the hours-

Thanks!

This information is helpful, 85735808.

Let's use the Time off feature to track the number of paid sick leave hours in QuickBooks Online.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu and then Employees.
  2. Select your employee.
  3. From Pay types, select Start or Edit.
  4. Scroll down to the Time off policies section.
  5. From the Paid time off, Unpaid time off, Sick Pay, or Vacation Pay drop-down menu, select Add new [time off pay] policy.
  6. Complete the on-screen fields to create your policy.
  7. Once done, click Save.

For more details, please see this article: Set up and Track Time off in Payroll.

Additionally, I've added an article that'll help you keep track of your business and employees' information: Run Payroll Reports.

I'm only a few clicks away if you need assistance running and managing payroll in QuickBooks. It's my pleasure to assist you with your other QuickBooks-related questions or concerns.

How can I use quickbooks payroll to comply with California Paid Sick Leave?

CA law allows employees to accrue more hours than they can use in one benefit year.  Accrual can be capped and 48 hours and usage can be capped at 24 hours. How is this setup in QB? I understand that I can enter "48" in "Maximum number of hours to accrue," but how do I limit the use to 24?

It's good to see you here in the Community, @aboval.

At this time, QuickBooks only allows you to limit the accrued hours per year and not its usage.

I understand that limiting the usage to 24 hours could help you track your employee's accruals properly. While this feature isn't available, I suggest submitting feedback directly to our product engineers. They may look into this suggestion further and consider adding the option in QuickBooks Online (QBO). To submit feedback, you can go to the Gear icon and select Feedback. Then, enter your suggestion and click Submit Feedback.

You can also visit our Customer Feedback page. This will help you track the status of your product request and get the latest updates from our developers. Updates such as how the recent enhancement made to QBO helps our business owners, like you.
